In folklore Iron nails have had various uses such as being used in witch jars to ward off bad energy and amplify a spell; they have also been driven into door frames to protect ones dwelling from unwanted malevolent energies or driven into the 4 corners of one's property to protect their home. Iron nails can also be worn as a protective charm of sorts due to the fact that Iron in alchemy is known as a protective element that also has a grounding effect and helps to build one's courage and mental strength.
Iron nails have also been associated with the saying As Above, So Below. In most of my iron nail designs the nail is pointing down but I flipped this one upside down to represent the As Above. The phrase 'As Above, So Below' represents the idea that everything is connected, what happens in one plane happens on another, what happens within one happens outside of us as well.
This necklace design features an Iron nail wrapped in iron wire on a gunmetal chain.
